60W vs 100W USB-C cable: can the cable slow charging?
Yes. A 60W cable can limit a 100W charger if the device wants more than 60W.
Think of charging as a chain
If the charger can supply 100W, the port can supply 100W and the laptop can accept 96W, but the cable is rated for 60W, then 60W is the lowest power ceiling. That is why WattageFit treats the cable as an independent link.
Why cable markings matter
USB-IF's current compliance program uses power markings including 60W and 240W for USB-C to USB-C cables. In the market you will also see older or product-specific 100W and EPR 140W labels. The important point is to use a cable whose supported power is at least as high as the charging rate you are trying to reach.
When does 60W make sense?
60W is enough for many phones, tablets, handhelds and efficient laptops. It becomes a concern when your laptop targets 65W, 96W, 100W, 140W or more.
